Today’s digital world is giving teachers and parents easy access to their child’s school work. I want to share my favorite app for both teachers and parents. It’s called SeeSaw and it is so easy to use!
There is a teacher app and a parent app. Basically the teacher can set up a class account FREE and the kids can snap a picture of their work to send to their teacher or parent. Everything about this app is easy! I used it in my classroom of 25 Kindergarteners and the parents loved it too. It gave them a snapshot of what their child was working on during their school day. What I loved most was that although it is a digital tool, the students work does not have to be digital! They can create anything hands on then simply snap a picture and send it to their parents. It also gives them options to type, color, paint, and record their voice.
Different Ways to Use SeeSaw
Click on the links below to see different ways my students used the SeeSaw App in my classroom.
- Hands on Math Centers– students can use manipulatives to “play” and learn. They can record their voices to explain what they created.
- Parents can comment-Using magnetic letters to build words and/or sentences . One of my favorite parts of this app is how it allows the viewer to comment on the child’s work.
- Writing Journals– so often parents do not get to view writing journals that are kept at school throughout the year. Using SeeSaw they can view daily work…this is seriously so cool!
- Typing/Word Work Practice– my students type their sight words for Word Work. They can read through their list and send it to me and their parents.
Home to School
This app can work in reverse! Parents can have their students complete activities and work assigned by their teachers and they can send a snapshot through SeeSaw back to the teacher. This will allow students to continue doing hands-on learning and and share the activity with their teacher. Let’s face it…not all learning can or should be digital! Young learners need to use all of their senses to learn. At the bottom of this post I have attached a lesson plan for writing, reading, and science. Help yourself to them and comment below if you have ever used this app and how it worked best for you!
