Dr. Suess! Now this is a man who knew how to make learning to read fun! Theodore Suess Geisel, known as Dr. Suess knew how kids learn best…through having fun and using their imagination. He loved to play and write nonsense! How many teachers allow nonsense their classrooms? Kids love it and Dr Suess is proof! He appreciated that young children learn best through rhyme, rhythm, and repetition. It didn’t need to make sense, it just had to be fun!

Green Eggs and Ham Day

Do you celebrate Dr. Suess and his brilliant nonsense? What do you do in your class to make learning fun? We do something fun each day of the week. We have a theme day each day of the week featuring different stories written by Dr. Suess. We even eat Green Eggs and Ham!

Scholastic.com is an amazing resource for getting ideas to implement in your classroom! They offer so many videos and lesson ideas. Our kids just love to learn about who Dr. Suess was and how he created his work! My class especially loved learning about how “Dr. Suess” is a pen name. We created our own pen names and illustrated in the same way that Dr. Suess created his own images and characters. This was one of my students ideas after watching a video from Scholastics Issue of Let’s Find Out !

Dr. Suess if a perfect example of making a difference in learning to read. Kids remember his books, love his books, and cherish them just as we do as adults! I have attached a sheet of QR codes that will take your students directly to a read aloud the book shown. You can either go to FREEBIES or you can just click here.

Dr. Suess would be turning 115 today! His birthday is now called Read Across America Day where kids all over celebrate their love for reading!
